Upea paikka luonnon rauhassa, jossa viihdyimme loistavasti.
(Aitta “Onnela”)

An escape in the middle of nature
Experience the unique beauty of Lapland
The perfect retreat in the middle of nature to relax and enjoy nature. Time stands still in the light of a nightless night far north of the Arctic Circle! The clocks go slower here! Experience the unique beauty of Lapland: light, peace, clean air and clean water; simply nature. You will feel the special magic of the landscape as soon as you arrive...
Enjoy good food with local specialities, exciting conversations by the fire, a hot sauna and cool lake - just as you wish.
From our wooden house "Vuostu", built in 2010 in the sparse forest, or the smaller guest house "Onnela", the view sweeps down to the lake and the beach sauna or towards the Tunturis in the distance. Hiking, camping, rowing, fishing, bird and reindeer watching, barbecuing outside or in a tipi, enjoying a sauna and swimming in the lake or reading a good book - there's time for everything here, especially in summer when the day lasts 24 hours! You can also enquire about one-week intensive Finnish courses for small groups of up to 4 people. With the teacher's support, you will learn to live everyday life in Finnish for a while.
Active holidays and relaxation
The beauty of snowy nature
The short days in winter offer long twilights with special light and the Northern Lights often enchant the night. You can go snowshoeing in the snow-covered forest, cross-country skiing on the frozen lake, ice fishing, enjoy a sauna with a dip in the ice hole, watch the Northern Lights or sit cosily in front of the fire with a book or good music. You can also book dog sled or snowmobile tours nearby. We are happy to help you plan and organise excursions in the surrounding area and visits to places of interest.

Frequently asked questions
We have collected some frequently asked questions here. If you are interested in something specific or have further questions, please feel free to contact us.
Contact UsAre there direct flights to Ivalo?
There are direct flights from several European cities, mostly during the winter season. Otherwise there is a stopover in Helsinki, from where daily flights to Ivalo depart.
Can Ivalo be reached by public transport?
You reach Ivalo by overnight train to Rovaniemi and then by bus to Ivalo.
How far are you from Ivalo airport?
The car journey from Ivalo Airport to the accommodation takes about 20 minutes.
What is the best time of year to visit Ivalo and Lapland?
The best time to travel is actually the whole year. Personally, we like summer for the light and the nightless night, and autumn for the bounty of the forest (berries and mushrooms) and the colours of autumn. Winter is great for snow and special light and spring for more light again. May is perhaps the worst time to travel; the snows are melting and the ice on the lake is weak to walk on.
Can you see the Northern Lights and when is the best time to see them?
The Northern Lights can be seen as soon as night falls again, i.e. from September onwards. The prerequisite is a cloudless sky. We observe the Northern Lights from our own garden.
