An escape in the middle of nature

Experience the unique beauty of Lapland

The perfect retreat in the middle of nature to relax and enjoy nature. Time stands still in the light of a nightless night far north of the Arctic Circle! The clocks go slower here! Experience the unique beauty of Lapland: light, peace, clean air and clean water; simply nature. You will feel the special magic of the landscape as soon as you arrive...
Enjoy good food with local specialities, exciting conversations by the fire, a hot sauna and cool lake - just as you wish.

From our wooden house "Vuostu", built in 2010 in the sparse forest, or the smaller guest house "Onnela", the view sweeps down to the lake and the beach sauna or towards the Tunturis in the distance. Hiking, camping, rowing, fishing, bird and reindeer watching, barbecuing outside or in a tipi, enjoying a sauna and swimming in the lake or reading a good book - there's time for everything here, especially in summer when the day lasts 24 hours! You can also enquire about one-week intensive Finnish courses for small groups of up to 4 people. With the teacher's support, you will learn to live everyday life in Finnish for a while.

Active holidays and relaxation

The beauty of snowy nature

The short days in winter offer long twilights with special light and the Northern Lights often enchant the night. You can go snowshoeing in the snow-covered forest, cross-country skiing on the frozen lake, ice fishing, enjoy a sauna with a dip in the ice hole, watch the Northern Lights or sit cosily in front of the fire with a book or good music. You can also book dog sled or snowmobile tours nearby. We are happy to help you plan and organise excursions in the surrounding area and visits to places of interest.

Customer feedback

Ivalo majoitus

We value all feedback as it helps us to improve our service and provide memorable accommodation experiences.

A great place in the tranquillity of nature where we had a lovely time. The welcome was warm and the accommodation in the guest house was lovely. Everything was topped off with a sauna in the beach sauna by the lake. We would have loved to stay here for a longer period of time, but unfortunately we had to return home. The guest house was very clean and had everything we needed. We can highly recommend this accommodation.

A great experience. all was perfect and we enjoyed a lot staying here. the hosts prepared everything to make the stay confortable, even prepared the sauna for us. great. I wish we could repeat sometime. (Aitta "Onnela")

What a dream! In harmony with nature, far away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. We stayed there at Midsummernight and it was SIMPLY WONDERFUL. The hosts relaxed and very friendly, the house located quietly amidst the forest and a few steps from the lake. After sweating in the sauna, which is directly at the lake, you can jump immediately in a refreshing, clear water. A rowing boat is available. We were hiking, swimming, collecting berries and mushrooms - it was so relaxing! I recommend a car for trips to the surroundings.

Felt as though we were a member of their family! This was a great find. For a small extra fee they will pick you up from IVL airport...well worth it. This place is Great, good accommodations and good company. Cabin is secludes on a hill above the lake, an amazing location. The house was very comfortable. We had dinner with Anne and Pirmin, local food, good conversation. They go above and beyond to make your stay great. Make sure if you are there in the winter try the sauna and lake ice hole combo!! This was a great stay, thanks again guy!! Would love to also check it out in the summer time...

We prepare our food mainly from Finnish ingredients, using local produce wherever possible. Fish comes from our own lake (when we catch some) or from nearby waters; reindeer and other meat from Lapland. The prices of the meals depend on the menu (price list on site).

Contact Us
  • Are there direct flights to Ivalo?

There are direct flights from several European cities, mostly during the winter season. Otherwise there is a stopover in Helsinki, from where daily flights to Ivalo depart.

  • Can Ivalo be reached by public transport?

You reach Ivalo by overnight train to Rovaniemi and then by bus to Ivalo.

  • How far are you from Ivalo airport?

The car journey from Ivalo Airport to the accommodation takes about 20 minutes.

  • What is the best time of year to visit Ivalo and Lapland?

The best time to travel is actually the whole year. Personally, we like summer for the light and the nightless night, and autumn for the bounty of the forest (berries and mushrooms) and the colours of autumn. Winter is great for snow and special light and spring for more light again. May is perhaps the worst time to travel; the snows are melting and the ice on the lake is weak to walk on.

  • Can you see the Northern Lights and when is the best time to see them?

The Northern Lights can be seen as soon as night falls again, i.e. from September onwards. The prerequisite is a cloudless sky. We observe the Northern Lights from our own garden.
